  • Popcorn is protective over food. She doesn't steal from other dogs and is respectful around their bowls, but she is guarded about her own.
  • She's strong, and when she's overexcited she can accidentally barrel into people. Bully breeds may face legal or social restrictions (leads, muzzles, breed rules) depending on where you live, so it's worth checking your local requirements before applying.

Popcorn's Rescue Story

Popcorn was rescued from a neglectful backyard breeding setup in Phetchaburi, thankfully before she was ever forced to produce a litter of her own. She arrived very underweight, malnourished and frightened of people, with an infection and blood parasites, and was treated for all of it. She has been at Baan Maa for around 13 months. When she first arrived she was so frightened of people that nobody was sure how comfortable she would ever become. After several weeks of good food, gentle handling and patience, her real personality, playful, sweet and a bit daft, started to show through.

About Popcorn

Popcorn is bouncy, funny and thoroughly affectionate, with a habit of getting spectacular short bursts of zoomies followed by a very necessary lie-down. She loves rolling onto her back for belly scratches, trying to fit herself into laps she does not fit into, and greeting visitors once she's decided they're worth the effort. She's independent enough that she doesn't show separation issues, and calm once she's had her exercise. She arrived at Baan Maa very underweight and frightened of people, having come from a backyard breeding setup, thankfully rescued before she was ever bred herself. She's been at Baan Maa around 13 months, and it took several weeks of good food and gentle, patient handling before her real personality, playful, sweet, a bit daft, started to show. She's now affectionate even with strangers, once properly introduced.

Life with Popcorn
Popcorn wakes around 7.30am, welcomes staff, goes for a walk, then plays. She naps a lot after exercise and gets a second wind once it cools down. About an hour a day works well, ideally split into two 30-minute walks, and despite the bursts of energy she actually walks fairly slowly most of the time.
People
Popcorn can be nervous with men at first but is fine after a proper introduction, and comfortable with women. She's good with teenagers, and gets excited and playful around young children. Strangers need a quick introduction rather than being rushed, and she warms to visitors quickly once that's happened. She may jump excitedly when greeting people she already knows well, and loves cuddles.
Other Animals
Popcorn is generally good with other dogs, large or small, and particularly enjoys puppies. She's good with males and mostly good with females, though she can get excited. She lives around chickens and cows without any real issue, and shows little obvious interest in buffalo, squirrels or ducks. She's untested with cats. She is protective over food. This is worth being upfront about: she doesn't steal from other dogs' bowls and is respectful around them, but she guards her own. It's a genuine part of her, not a footnote.
Training
Popcorn is around 90% reliable on toilet training in her kennel, with an occasional accident. She's lead trained, though pulling still needs continued work, and crate trained. She isn't strongly food motivated, which makes conventional treat-based training a bit trickier, but she genuinely wants to please, which goes a long way. She responds well to her name, and her recall is built around that.

Dogs moving into a new home often regress a little at first, even on things they'd already learned. That's normal, not a step backwards - a bit of patience and the same consistent routine soon has them back on track.

Health
Popcorn is currently healthy, spayed and vaccinated, with no medication and no known allergies, mobility problems or ongoing needs. She arrived very underweight, malnourished, frightened of people, with an infection and blood parasites, and was treated for all of it: improved nutrition, blood parasite treatment, tick and flea treatment, and deworming.
Ideal Home
A house suits Popcorn better than a small apartment; she's strong and energetic enough to be a genuine bull in a china shop in a tight space. A garden isn't essential if she's properly exercised. She's good with children and could live with another dog, provided that dog isn't overly dominant. A first-time owner isn't automatically ruled out, provided they've genuinely researched bully breeds and are committed to continued training; experience isn't a strict requirement. She'd suit active households, someone working from home, or a retired adopter who can reliably give her the exercise she needs.

Might not be the best match if...

A very busy home with constant visitors, or a highly dominant large dog, probably isn't the right fit. Anyone applying should also be realistic about her strength, her food guarding, and, depending on where you live, any legal or social requirements around bully breeds.

Fun Fact

When Popcorn gets the zoomies, she starts snorting like a pig. She can also do a full roll-over on command, but, on principle, only when nobody's actually asked her to.

Perfect Day

A walk before it gets too hot, a proper roll in the grass, a nap in a cool quiet spot, a second walk once things cool down, and a chew to see off in a corner where nobody is going to bother her.
