Del Boy's Rescue Story

Del Boy was rescued from a forest in Hua Hin. He later lived with an elderly Thai lady, then ended up in a private shelter with too many dogs, where competition for food and water made life difficult. He arrived at Baan Maa in December 2025, physically healthy but needing some confidence built back up.

About Del Boy

Del Boy has a particularly relaxed, easygoing way about him. He's confident, affectionate, a bit silly, and calm in a manner that suggests he's decided worrying isn't really worth the effort. His name, Dum, means black in Thai, which is a fairly literal description of him. He was rescued from a forest in Hua Hin, later lived with an elderly Thai lady, then landed in an overcrowded private shelter where competition for food and water made life hard. He arrived at Baan Maa in December 2025, physically healthy but needing some confidence rebuilt.

Life with Del Boy

Del Boy is up around 6.30am and likes following staff and joining local outings. He enjoys his walks but is equally happy with a good nap afterwards; around 45 to 60 minutes of exercise a day suits him well. He also has a habit of quietly reclaiming any chair you've just vacated. Stand up for a moment and there's a fair chance he'll be sitting in your spot by the time you turn round.

People

Del Boy is good with men, women, teenagers, children, strangers and visitors, and generally greets people calmly before settling in for cuddles. There are two things worth knowing: he dislikes being picked up, and he dislikes being pulled by the collar. He can also briefly object when his lead first goes on, though he settles within a couple of minutes.

Other Animals

Del Boy is generally good with other dogs, large or small, male or female. He may chase chickens, squirrels or lizards, and shows minor, occasional resource guarding. He can become slightly jealous over human attention. He's untested with cats.

Training

Del Boy is toilet, lead and crate trained, good in the car, and knows sit and wait, with recall reasonable. His food manners are good. He may escape under a low fence, mainly because he's decided to follow someone for a walk rather than any real interest in leaving.

Dogs moving into a new home often regress a little at first, even on things they'd already learned. That's normal, not a step backwards - a bit of patience and the same consistent routine soon has them back on track.

Health

Del Boy is healthy, neutered and vaccinated, with no medication or known ongoing needs.

Ideal Home

Del Boy would suit a house, and potentially an apartment too, since his short legs make him considerably more compact than his 20kg suggests. A garden is nice but not essential. He'd suit first-time or experienced owners, families with children, retired owners, active households or someone working from home. He can live with another dog, and may actually be happiest as the only one; if he does share a home with a dog, a calm, non-dominant companion would suit him best.

Might not be the best match if...

Avoid pairing him with a very dominant or boisterous dog, and remember he doesn't want to be picked up or pulled by the collar.

Fun Fact

Del Boy looks as though someone fitted a full-sized Labrador's head and body onto legs half the expected length. He is also a professional chair thief; get up, and there's a good chance he's had your seat before you've turned round.

Perfect Day

Following staff around on the morning jobs, a 45 minute wander, a comfortable bed (or better, your chair) to nap in, and a bit of adventure on the back of the bike if he is lucky.
